The Hiroshima Bookstore Street event is fast approaching.
We will announce more information in the second announcement. In this announcement, we will tell you about the workshops that you can look forward to, the merchandise for sale other than books, and the food booths that are indispensable to festivals.

Now, what you have all been waiting for, it is time to announce the performers and content of this talk event!
For the third Bookstore Street, we are welcoming some very impressive guests in order to hold more than one or two fulfilling talk events, and the talk topics are also very interesting. I myself have no idea what kind of talk will take place, so I am very much looking forward to it.

And as an added bonus, this year we have once again produced an updated version of the official Hiroshima Bookstore Street guidebook, "Current Location of Bookstores," produced by HIROSHIMA TSUTAYA BOOKS!
Here is a page introducing all the bookshops that will be participating this time. There are also interviews with Akademii Shoten, a long-established second-hand bookshop in Hiroshima, and READANDEAT, as well as an interview with Kobo Tage Buch, a new second-hand bookshop that opened in Onomichi. There is also an interview with Maeda Masatomi, president of Maeda Housing, who talks about his passion for promoting books and bookshops. There are also columns by each bookshop and the book that each bookshop owner wants to sell right now, making for a very interesting read. Of course, the original tote bags will be on sale again this year, so buy lots of books and throw them into your tote bag!

[TALK SHOW]
■First session: 13:00-13:40
[Prepare your mind. 56 habits to bring about victory]
"Natasho" Yoshiyuki Fujii x "HIROSHIMA TSUTAYA BOOKS" Hiroki Eto

Life is never easy. What do people need in this harsh society? First of all, get your mind in order. That's what Fujii declares. Yoshiyuki Fujii of "Natasho", who has set a monumental record in the bookselling industry of 47 years without a loss, has spent many years devising 56 secret habits to get your mind in order. What does victory mean to you? Fujii's mental method, which is said to cost 300,000 yen. The know-how will be made available for free, exclusively on Hiroshima Bookstore Street.
Yoshiyuki Fujii, Bookstore Owner
Born in 1976. In 2005, despite being persuaded to stay at a major publishing company, he left and opened a reservation-only bookstore, "Natasho," in Takamatsu, Shikoku in 2006. After maintaining the status quo for 18 years, in 2023 he will make his long-awaited debut as a movie actor in "The Secondhand Bookstore Who Loved His Wife." As one of the most successful bookstore owners today, he continues to attract attention not only from within Japan but also from overseas.

[Independent Bookstore: Money Talks Only Here]

Consignment, agency, commission rate and return rate.
It has a cafe attached, daily events, and self-publishes the book for sale on the go.
In recent years, independent bookstores have been attracting attention, and many books about bookstores have been published, with talks and broadcasts being repeated daily. In the midst of all this, the question that everyone is about to ask but swallows is, "What's it really like?" Putting aside the usual "Are you making a profit? Not bad," this is a serious discussion between the people involved about money. Going beyond the dichotomy of profitable and unprofitable, we will discuss what the problems are and how to improve them. We will talk about the joys and sorrows of life as a bookstore owner. There is no favoritism or secrets, but it is still a story about elegant business. If you are interested in bookstores or if you are a small business owner yourself, please come and join us!

Atsushi Horibe Seikosha Shop Owner
Owner of Seikosha, a private bookstore east of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. In addition to selling a selection of new books, foreign books, used books, little press books, and music software, he also writes and publishes. Published books include "Discourse of Coffee Shops" and "Construction of Coffee" (both by Ooya Minoru), "Moving Days" (Hirano Ai), "Out of Mingei" (Jikuhara Yosuke and Nakamura Yuta), and others. His books include "Life on Mars: Seikosha's Miscellaneous Income 2015-2022" and others.
Kiyomasa Mitsuhiro Owner of READANDEAT
While working as a company employee, he experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake in Tokyo. Around the same time, he heard the news that Libro Hiroshima was closing, and out of anger at losing his favorite place, he decided to open a bookstore. After two years of training in bookstores in Tokyo, he opened "READAN DEAT", a store that sells books and tableware, in 2014. The store actively holds special exhibitions, talk events, workshops, and more.

[WORK SHOP]
Letterpress Campanella

This is a small store dealing in letterpress printing and miscellaneous goods in Onomichi, a city of sea and hills. It opened in 2016 after renovating an old house in the Yamate area, which retains the traditional scenery typical of Onomichi. We regularly hold printing experiences that anyone can enjoy, hoping that it will be an opportunity to experience the fun of design and manufacturing. On the day, we will bring a cute red printing press made by Adana, a British company, and also sell paper items.

(  How to enjoy Hiroshima Bookstore Street

There are many bookstores, especially large bookstores. This project is already the third time it has been held. I would like to write about how to enjoy Hiroshima Bookstore Street in my own way.

(Part 1)
Enjoy the venue
It's not often that so many booksellers gather at a bookstore. And it only happens for one day, so let's enjoy the extraordinary feeling of such a special day.

(Part 2)
Enjoy the shop
There are more than 40 bookstores on Bookstore Street, mainly in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions. They are real shops and people who hold various events in various places. Please burn the sight of such shops lined up side by side into your eyes.

(Part 3)
Enjoy the shelves and books
Once you have enjoyed the sight of the rows of shops, take a look at the books and shelves in each store. Each store has its own unique way of displaying the books. You will surely be able to feel the vastness of the world of books and the depth of the shelves that express it.

(Part 4)
Enjoy the owner
Not only the books on display, but the shopkeepers who stand in front of each store are also very unique and charming people. They come from all sorts of backgrounds and have a variety of personalities - passionate, cool, kind, funny, a little eccentric. Please pay attention to that as well.

(Part 5)
Enjoy yourself
All of you who come to this venue are important and valuable people who embody the charm of Bookstore Street. Your happy appearance is the power that supports Bookstore Street. Please enjoy yourselves.

I've written this much, but I hope that reading it has given you some idea of the fun of Bookstore Street. And if you say this to me, I'll understand that "Hiroshima Bookstore Street" is fun.
