The in-store art wall will host Shimoie Anju's solo exhibition "Good bye my world" from Saturday, November 16th to Friday, December 6th, 2024.
Shimoie Anju is an artist known for her nostalgic style, reminiscent of retro manga. She is particular about oil painting techniques and pursues her own unique style of expression with organic brushstrokes and texture.
The bodies of people and animals that appear as motifs, as well as the plants and various materials in the background, are all drawn with soft curves, giving the impression of a generous worldview. These motifs are metaphors for the various things and emotions encountered in daily life, and are also privately constructed worlds in the mind. There is humor and toxicity, utopia and dystopia; there is a diversity and freedom of thought present there that cannot be described simply as "cute pictures."
When creating this work, Shimoie was conscious of "how much I could become a child and draw." Having loved to fantasize since childhood, Shimoie felt comforted by drawing the characters and worldviews in his head, and pursued the kind of chemical reaction that would be created when they were turned into oil paintings. Shimoie hopes that those who view his works will also be able to return to their childhood hearts and feel comforted. In this exhibition, eight new pieces will be displayed alongside his past works.

[Message for the solo exhibition]
I think the most difficult thing about drawing a picture is finishing at the best point.
To put it in perspective, it's like the cross section of a gemstone. To create a fresh, living painting, I think I have to enjoy painting wholeheartedly.
When I look at my daughter, I see that every day is a new encounter and her eyes are shining.
When I see her, I sometimes remember my own childhood.
When I was little, the things I often did were climbing trees or playing alone with dolls for hours, which were quite different from what you see in the pictures.
However, I now believe that these various encounters were important in creating my own world.
This exhibition took me back to my roots and allowed me to release many of the my-worlds that had been stored in my head.
I would be happy if my work could make people feel a little more free and have fun.
