The Saw series is back again.
I'm sure most of you are already familiar with the series, but I'll give a quick rundown.
The first Saw film, released in 2004, was a small-scale production made by an unknown newcomer, but after screening at the Sundance Film Festival it became a surprise hit and stunned the world.
It then became a franchise, and new films continued to be released every year as a Halloween staple until the seventh film, Saw 3D.
The series was announced to be complete in 2010, but new films were produced in 2017 (Jigsaw: Saw Legacy) and 2021 (Spiral: Saw All Reset).
These are not straight sequels to the previous numbered titles, but rather take a unique approach of reconstructing and resetting.
Now, Saw X, the 10th film in the series, chronologically tells the story between Saw 1 and Saw 2.
Fans who have been following the series may have noticed at this point that Jigsaw is still alive at this point.
In fact, the Saw series is a somewhat unusual franchise in that the main character and iconic organizer of the death game, Jigsaw, is on the verge of death in Saw 3 and is already dead by Saw 4.
They managed to pull off the incredible feat of continuing the series for more than half the time with the main characters gone.
This is a groundbreaking series that depicts the existence of Jigsaw, who continues to have an influence even after death, but it was a bit sad that in the latter half of the series we only saw Jigsaw in flashback scenes.
So Saw X, in which we can see Jigsaw in action again in good health (although he has been given a terminal prognosis), is a new film that fans have been waiting for.
The plot, in which Jigsaw, a genius who can always read ahead of others, gets tricked by a medical scam, is full of twists and turns and is well worth watching.

Saw was created by two young men from Australia.
Director James Wan will be involved as a producer from the second film onwards.
He has produced a series of franchises that are indispensable to the modern horror film world, such as "Insidious" and "The Conjuring," and has transformed into a big name who has also demonstrated his skills in blockbuster films such as "The Fast and the Furious" and "Aquaman."
The other, Leigh Whannell, served as both a writer and actor.
While also involved as a producer, he also made his directorial debut with Insidious: Chapter 3.
Since then, he has continued to make quality thrillers such as "Upgrade" and "The Invisible Man."
This series has also played a role in allowing staff from each department to make their directorial debut.
David Hackl, director of Saw V, has been involved in the series as production designer, and Kevin Greutert, who directed Saw VI, Saw 2: The Final Chapter and Saw X, has continued to support the series as editor.
It is clear that the Saw series has had a huge impact on the horror film industry, not only in terms of box office success but also as a platform for discovering talent.

"Black Widow"
2021 | Director: Cate Shortland
2021 | Director: Cate Shortland
Although it's not exactly a horror film, this one came to mind when I thought of its position in the series similar to Saw X.
The only way to bring characters whose departure from previously announced series into the storyline is to go back in time.
However, since events that have already occurred in a published work cannot be changed, storytelling that fills in the gaps is required.
Both "Black Widow" and "Saw X" can be said to be films that make good and creative use of these constraints.
