Photographer and retoucher Rumi Ando is known for her "TOKYO NUDE" series, in which she uses retouching techniques to remove "noise" from signs, building air conditioners, windows, utility poles, and other such elements under the concept of "creating a fictional Tokyo through photography," rendering the city naked.
The mysterious cityscape photographs in "TOKYO NUDE" have attracted attention, and his field of activity has expanded, with his work being used to design the cover of "Tokyo Tower of Sympathy" (Shinchosha), the 2024 Akutagawa Prize-winning work, as well as the covers of literary magazines "Gunzo" (Kodansha) and "Misuzu" (Misuzu Shobo, currently out of publication).
This book is the first commercially published collection of 100 works from Ando Rumi's "TOKYO NUDE" series.

■Introduction (excerpt from this book)
Tokyo has undergone repeated metabolism over the years.
The buildings, built close together, seem like a living organism rooted in the city.
Living in Tokyo, I coexist with this rigid life form.
On the other hand, it feels like the sense of community among people is shifting online.
Long-distance virtual connections can be much more important than relationships with neighbors across the wall.
The virtual is becoming real and the real is becoming virtual.
The outline of the city of Tokyo is now becoming blurred.
What will Tokyo look like when its material functions are no longer necessary for us?
There is a box-like structure there, with neither entrance nor exit.
All activity is completed within the box, and photographs, letters, and traces of human consumption have disappeared from the city.
The naked face of Tokyo, stripped of the clothes of civilization decorated by humans, is revealed in the form of "TOKYO NUDE."
Is that a dystopia for us?
Is this a utopia for Tokyo?
We must confront the ever-changing contours of Tokyo.
