We will be holding an exhibition by graphic designer Mariko Okazaki, who is active in a wide range of fields, including comprehensive design and art direction for contemporary art exhibitions.
This year, he was awarded the JAGDA New Designer Award 2024, which was established to highlight outstanding young designers and revitalize the graphic design world.
This exhibition will feature the artist's latest graphic works, which combine printing and weaving, as well as a collection of his work and books he has designed to date.

TEXTEXTEX

In creating graphic design, I move back and forth between universality and modernity, structure and feeling.

***

Textiles have existed in many different places from ancient times to the present day.
Like myths and folk tales, similar woven patterns have emerged all over the world and have become a part of people's lives.

Weaving, which is created by a combination of 0/1, either the warp thread is up or the weft thread is up, is very structured, just as the punch cards of the Jacquard loom inspired the invention of early computers.
On the other hand, the finished fabric affects people's senses through its texture, color, and luster.

***

I thought I would try and create a gradient in graphic design and textiles.
Photographs of the fabric are taken and then the photographs are woven together on a computer.
The resulting graphics were then printed onto paper, printed onto fabric and converted into woven patterns.
